Saturday 14 of may Southern Tablelands United travelled to ANU. it was avery close game in the opening stages but United seemed to have the edge early on with the combinations flowing leading to excited passages of play. Mitch Iredale ,Jake Stephenson, Lachlan Lewin and Wade Mcall all having early chances but the ANU keeper was up for the challenge pulling off some amazing saves to keep scores level.

Midway through the first half a corner came in from Lachlan Lewin aimed for the back post Mitch Iredale managed to keep the ball in play with a header directed back at goal Nathan Hookham making his debut for the club was first to react nodding his header in from close range first half ended 1-0 to United.

The second half started a bit slower with ANU changing tactics to deal with the flair of the United forward pack who were causing all sorts of problems. United retaining belief that they could hold on continued to fight for every ball with the backline standing tall to deal with some early ANU chances and as a result were able to break on the counter and Lachlan Lewin scored a beautifully driven shot which the keeper could only push into his far corner.

With United understanding that they’d almost finished the job the chances began to fall again with Mitch Iredale once again being heavily involved holding up play and laying off for the supporting wingers and managing to get some shots of his own the pressure finally paid off with another Lachlan Lewin corner finding the head of Mitch Fern also making his debut to seal the 3 points all in all the game was very competitive and enjoyable for all with United’s attacking quality being the difference on this day
