Southern Tablelands Referees in 2025 had 30 referees and 20 game leaders within the branch. Our numbers have stayed steady since our inception, growing each year.
The Southern Tablelands Referees offer two levels of officiating within the Southern Tablelands:
Game Leader
A short 45-60 minute course held 1-2 weeks before the season starts. This is available for person(s) 12 years or older and will enable allocations to the Under 8 through to Under 10 age groups. Cash paid on the day from the canteen. Please email sthnrefs@gmail.com if you are interested, otherwise keep an eye on Facebook for notification of the course and it’s details.
Level 4 Referee Course
The Level 4 course is your entry level referees course that will enable you to referee any competition age group as a centre or assistant from Under 12s up to Seniors. Allocations are applied based on your age and experience, meaning a 14 year old will not be the centre official for an All Age Men’s game, but may be an assistant referee if the capability is there.
The theory aspect of the Level 4 is all online and details will be shared on social media once courses have been set. The STR will run multiple courses throughout the year. Participants need to be 14 years or older to be eligible to sit the course. Once you pass the theory component online, you will be put through a practical training at Cookbundoon. This will more than likely coincide with a game so that you can get experience on the job. Please email sthnrefs@gmail.com if you are interested, otherwise keep an eye on Facebook for notification of the course and it’s details.
Upskilling Accreditation
The STR are always looking to upskill our referees, and if you are ever interested in becoming a Level 3 or higher please speak to Nick Ritchie to discuss your options. Additionally, if you are wanting to become a Referee Assessor/Coach, please also let Nick know.
